Boy with InhalerPublic Health Idaho North Central District’s Asthma Prevention and Control Program is focused on reducing the burden of asthma in North Central Idaho. This is accomplished through raising awareness of asthma and implementing programs that provide those living with asthma a better quality of life.

Basic Asthma Information

Asthma is a chronic disease of the lungs that affects more than 20 million Americans. Approximately 120,000 Idahoans are diagnosed with asthma. Common symptoms include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Coughing
  • Wheezing
  • Increased mucus

There is no cure for asthma, but the symptoms can be managed. Take the Asthma Control Test to find out if your asthma is under control.

Know your triggers

Below is a list of common asthma triggers. It’s important to know what triggers your asthma so you can avoid those things.Inhaler

  • Secondhand smoke
  • Mold
  • Dust & dust mites
  • Pet Dander
  • Cockroaches and other pests
  • Nitrogen dioxide
  • Outdoor air pollutants
