The Health Department is committed to improving the health of children in our five-county district. Most of the programs for children are community partner based and we work with other agencies in order to give your child the best available care.
Child Find/Infant-Toddler Developmental Monitoring Program
A FREE program designed to find and follow children from birth to 3 years old who could be at risk for any growth and developmental delays as a result of being premature or having other medical concerns. Many parents enjoy following their child’s development when there are no at-risk concerns. All children are eligible for the Child Find Program.
Children’s Special Health Program (CSHP)
CSHP provides diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation service to children with specific medical diagnoses. In addition to a specific diagnosis, eligibility is also determined by family income. The family can not have insurance or Medicaid and must be low income to be eligible.
Children who are 0-18 years of age with diagnoses that can be categorized under burn, cardiac, cleft lip/cleft palate, craniofacial, cystic fibrosis, neurological, orthopedic or plastic surgery are eligible for this program.
Currently, NCDHD no longer provides direct nursing and case management services for local CSHP children. All CSHP eligible children are case managed by St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center, Boise. Please contact Mary Elaine Nelson, RN at 208-381-7092 for information. Children who are eligible for CSHP will receive medical care within NCDHD geographic region. Learn more about Children’s Special Health Program.
Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Clinic
Children who have cleft lip and/or cleft palate are eligible to be seen in a clinic to review the treatment plan. The advantage of this clinic is that during one visit, the child can see a plastic surgeon, orthodontist, ENT specialist, and speech therapist. Long-term care can be coordinated during this clinic. If you are interested in attending this clinic, call 208-799-3100 and ask for the CSHP Coordinator.
Health and Safety for Kids
Health and Safety for Kids is a cooperative program with Department of Health and Welfare, Children and Family Services (CFS). Families who receive services from CFS may be referred for heath education. Medication management, feeding problems, managing select medical conditions are some of the reasons nurses are referred by CFS.
Immunizations
Immunizations for children and adults are provided at minimal cost. Vaccinations for travelers are also available.
