A vector is an organism or animal (such as an insect or mouse) that transmits an infectious agent capable of causing disease. For example, a mosquito is a vector for many diseases, including West Nile Virus. In the control of vectors, a primary emphasis should be on basic community environmental sanitation to eliminate the conditions that make possible their survival and reproduction.
